It's no secret: I love Alan Watts.
After a wonderful friend gave me The Way of Zen in college, we would spend many summer nights driving with the windows down, listening to lectures by Alan Watts.
They blew my mind.
I could listen to this playful, wise, bridge-building philosopher speak for hours and hours and hours, and often, I do.
When I'm working on projects such as these, or doing laundry, the dishes, daily inevitable chores... I listen to his words and quite continually feel calmer, more at ease, and better able to laugh at life's difficulties.
Being able to read his words is an equal treat for me, and for those of you passionate about finding connections between work, play, spirituality, religion, philosophy, psychology, societal institutions, psychotherapy, artistry, academia, etc... this is a MAGNIFICENT/dense (but BRILLIANT) book to delve into.
Without further ado, a collection of incredible quotes from Psychotherapy East & West by Alan Watts:
Before he became a counterculture hero, Alan Watts was known as an incisive scholar of Eastern and Western psychology and philosophy. In this 1961 classic, Watts demonstrates his deep understanding of both Western psychotherapy and the Eastern spiritual philosophies of Buddhism, Taoism, Vedanta, and Yoga.
